Dear IDECers,
I'm not sure about the formality to decide about hosting an IDEC - and
it is more than a mere formality: Some poeple in Berlin have discussed
a while and would be proud to host the IDEC in 2005.
We are an organizing committee consisting of people of
two different organizations. One is the association "Netzwerk
SPIEL/KULTUR" what means a "network for play and culture". The children's rights group KRÄTZÄ
is a part of this association. We fight since more than ten years for
human rights for children, a central topic is since the beginning the
school system. I'm a member of this group and attended the IDEC in
Albany/Troy last year.
The other partner is the "Schule für
Erwachsenenbildung", what is: School for Education for Adults. It has
democratic structures even though the students mainly want to and have
to learn the things necessary to pass the school leaving examination.
They decided in a school meeting to support IDEC after having discussed
the proposal.
Afterward the organizing committee discussed some rough
details - enough to take over the risk and the chance to apply for the
IDEC.
One should know that officially accepted democratic
schools for young students - as far as we know - do not exist yet in
Germany. Some time ago I received some private mails from Jerry and
Dana and Issac - all wellknown here on the listserve - who asked me to
reconsider my decision NOT to host the IDEC. This is done now.
We are very curios about your detailed comments, questions, suggestions - and decisions.
Mike Weimann and the other members of the BerlinIDEC-committee.
